What is the # of cycles a DO880 channel can perform before a failure is expected? The application will be providing a watchdog relay heart beat signal.

This is a SIL classified output card.
I don't see any reason to use this a a old school watch-dog relay,even though it can handle high-demand applications.
Trust the system and energize an output connected to your relay. When the diagnostics detect a fault, HW or SW, the channel WILL go to fail safe state (Not Energized).
You can of course create a SW watch-dog that hold the output ON based on your own criteria, but if the purpose is to detect PLC errors you don't have to.
It is a safety system - ABB has thought about this...
