800xA workplace hangs using quick find tool
Hi,
I am doing some maintenance on a 800xA 5.1 FP4 rev.C system.
with n.2 AS, n.2 CS (MOD300) , n.1 IM history, n.5 clients.
We have done a complete power on/off of the hardware.
After a complete system restart I saw two strange problems.
1 - It happens that searching tag faceplates by using the quick find tool could hang the activity on the complete workplace for 10-20 secs
(alarm band and alarm list display, graphics etc... freeze)
2 - After about one day after the complete system restart we found a lot of problem with the NETLOGON process on the PDC (AS1) (event n.5774)
and we were randomly no more able to call loopfcm displays from the clients, until a CS restart.
I wonder what this failures could depends on and if this behaviour could be generated
by other misconfiguration of network adapters or switches that, by the way, always worked fine
until the system restart.
Also, I did not find a clear specification regardin network adapters configuration parameters,
especially regarding speed and duplex, flow control and RSS parameters , 100 MBps or 1 GBps ?
Thanks everybody.
Paul

Hello Paul,
Please find attached 800xA Network Configuration manual. Refer Ethernet Speed section on pg. 219 for Speed and Duplex settings.
RSS (Receive Side Scaling) feature setting is mentioned in 800xA Installation manual (attached). Refer Configuring Network Adapters section on pg. 47.
-> Receive side scaling should be disabled
-> Flow control-Rx and Tx should be enabled
-> Link Speed and Duplex-Recommended is 100 mbps full Duplex on all the network adapters.
-> Under power management please uncheck the option to allow computer to turn off the device to save power option.
When the Workplace hangs/freezes, you can collect the dump as per this document using link: https://forum-controlsystems.abb.com/Document/20198675/Dump-collection-of-a-Pro
cess-both-in-32-bit-and-64-bit
and share the dump to your regional support center for analysis.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
The eDCN connections to the MOD 300 PU410 RTA unit and the CS513 AC460 interface only support 10MB half-duplex operation. Interconnecting ethernet backbones (copper wire or fiber optic) support ethernet network standards (speeds greater than 10MB/sec and full duplex).
The switch setting for the network segment connected to the MOD 300 eDCN nodes must be manually set to 10MB/sec and half-duplex. DO NOT use the ‘Auto’ setting (e.g. auto negotiate or auto sense)

Have you ever come across the System 800xA Release Notes on ABB Library?

I suggest making it a habit to download and read them as they are published (you can actually subscribe for them).
Check with your regional ABB sales representative.
Once downloaded, organise them and create a PDF index (you need Acrobat Pro or something equivalent) which you can call from a shortcut or custom menu.
