Retrotfit solution for ACS880 drive
Currently, in our gantry crane we are using AC800M, PM861 PLC and ACS600 multidrives module. We intend to upgrade drive system to ACS880. But when we talk to our local ABB representative then offer us to use PM851 for interfacing of PM861 and ACS880. While I tried a spare ACS880 on this crane for testing then it was communicating fine without PM851.
But ABB is continuously pushing to use PM851 for communication between existing PLC and new drive.
Can someone give me best advise, how should I proceed further?

Hi Shoaib
the real reason why your local ABB service / salesman is pushing you to use a PM851 processor, you should ask him.
Without a thorough understanding of your system, I can not make any conjecture unlike ABB's commercial engineer who has all the information he needs.
I suggest you to let yourself be explained by those who made the offer, the real causes of the proposal and after the explication, to do the final decision.
Hope this help you

Hi, It is probably a compatibility issues between the new drive and existing system. However there should no major reason why you cannot use the new drive on your existing system. Having said that, if your existing system is older (say >5years) then the local ABB rep is probably trying to help you achieve the best solution.
