A failing IM event collector is in the majority of cases an indicator of a failure of the IM server itself. When an IM server fails, it shuts down the OPC AE server used for emitting diagnostic events.
This drives an error indication in alarm lists and bands.
The orange borders in alarm lists and bands can be disabled by unchecking the ”Significant alarm source” checkbox in Alarm Collection Definition [Config View] for the IM OPC AE Server (called hs...-something). Operators seldom see IM events or need to treat them. Do NOT turn off this feature for process alarm servers!
Next time call up the IM History Manager from the system tray of the IM server. Check statuses.
You can also call the PASGUI.exe tool and see if there are any indications of service failure (yellow triangle)
The System Event list may contain clues in the form of diagnostic events of the category ”IM History”. I usually spawn a separate list with this category (only) in the filter settings to use in cases like this.
The IM has an ample amount of logs in the directory pointed out by %HS_LOG%.
There is also an Oracle ALERT file containing info about the Oracle instance which the IM is riding upon.
With all of the above at hand you have what is usually required when contacting the ABB support center.
If you see some error among all of this, by uploading a part or image here I might be able to tell some more...
