Manual installation 800xA 6.0
Not sure if deeper digging into my matter
(http://www402.abbext.com/Fails-add-cl...) is publicly interesting, therefore this personal message, please tell me if you disagree.
Does your last recommendation mean that the machines should be "baby-clean" ?
(I mean new clean windows installation) or may I remove the installed programs by "Programs and Features" ?
Assuming clean new windows is not neccessary:
What about the usergroups and users, should I remove them ? (The manual says that these are part of Prerequisites and must be added manually anyway).
You say "Export two critical config aspects containing v6 installer data", exactly which aspects are these ?
It seems like the net effect of your procedure is to get these two aspects created into my existing system, is it not possible to create and configure these aspects by plant explorer ?
Please guide me as detailed as possible (I would appreciate som direct manipulation via e.g. TeamViewer if possible), or perhaps this is a case for L3 support which we have "contract" with (are you part of L3 support ?)
A personal opinion:
It seems like ABB starts making tools which manipulates the system in an obscure way (obscure because not always visible and editable in plant explorer, also ref. another thread of mine which you replied to a few days ago regarding backup with limited retention time,
which, by the way, seems to remove the possibility of doing this kind of backup on more than one server.
This increases the dependencies to tools etc. in a trial to make it simpler, however, my experience from earlier versions has always been that auto-installation created a mess and i had to redo using manual methods (then I actually understood more or less what was going on), but now it looks like the configurator is forced to leave control to tools which make it harder to understand what is going on.
(I think you went to Oslo late last millenium to help me with some mixed unix and windows historian stuff and did a great job that time, saved me ...)
The two aspects in your question are "System Configuration" aspect and "System Configuration State" aspect located in Admin Structure > Administrative Objects > Domains > your domain,
Below is the extract from the manual...
These aspects can be configured using the System Configuration Console Tool only and not manually.
The new installer in v6 shall not be compared with the previous versions. A whole new concept is taking form. Eventually, we will be able to put all software, service packs, rollups, temporary corrections on one repository; push some buttons in the new system config tool and the installer will do the rest for you, in parallel, automatically.
With v6 no manual "setup.exe" should be done in any node, OK, maybe RNRP in some external domain controller or application server.
Clean machine to start with; not necessarily, but I recommend removing all stuff you installed from the ABB media(s) as we can not be sure the installer can handle "brownfield" machines (e.g. if an old version of Process Portal A, etc. is already there). Already fulfilled prerequisites can of course be left "in".
I agree, the new installer should be able to "read" config from an already existing system; unfortunately we are not there yet. I.e. you must install software, deploy node functions through the new system configuration tool; or else, a future upgrade will not succeed.
I believe the reset can be handled in a support case.
And, yes, my position is at the SE L3 support center in Västerås, Sweden.
