Freelance 2013 OPC gateway can it comunicate with Alen Bradley using OPC connection to bring in data
Answers
Hello!
A Freelance OPC gateway exposes Freelance data to (usually) 3rd party OPC clients. If you want to import data from a 3rd party PLC or DCS the 3rd party PLC or DCS needs to have its own 3rd party OPC server, which can be accessed by the build in OPC client in Freelance.
To do this you need to configure an OPC server object in the P-Tree, an OPC-S object, as oposed to a D-GS / GWY object for an OPC gateway. That OPC Server object represents the 3rd party OPC server within the Freelance configuration.
With this done you can browse the externel 3rd party OPC server via the "System / OPC item list" menu, which calls up a dialog that allows to import OPC items into the Freelance namespace for variables or Tags. Such imported OPC items can be treated as variables for example but can be consumed in the Freelance Operations (DigiVis) program only (as animation source in Graphics or other display types) and not in the Freelance controller, because only the Freelance Operations has a build in OPC client. The Controller doesn't.
As Dieter Henkel already sayed the Freelance Controlers cannot get values from a 3rd party opc server. Only Freelance operator software (DigiVIS) can. But the controllers can get data from its own opc-servers. If you need to transfer values between Alen Bradley and Freelance controllers you can use 4th party opc bridge software. One of this software ist Softing dataFEED OPC Suite.
