ABB old PLC DSPC 172 and its software "Advant Controller"
Hello,
In our product line we have a few faults. Our PLC CPU is ABB DSPC 172 with Advant controller package containing Master View 200, MasterAid 220 and Master Piece parts. To overcome these problems we need to read and change the PLC program. How can we do it?
In the ABB website we read about the new version of our Advant Controller called Control Builder. According to the fact that our system is based on DOS operating system, Can we edit our process control program using new ABB Microsoft Windows 7 or 8 based softwares ? In other words does the "Control Builder Plus" software support old CPUs such as "DSPC 172"?
If any one wanna discuss mail me at "mojtabasadeghi44@yahoo.com".
Best wishes,
Mojtaba

I should also add that if you have a working MasterAid MA220 then you have everything you need to make on line changes to your PLC Program. Control Builder A is just a more modern version of this tool. ( The DSPC172 is the part number for the CPU card in a Masterpiece MP200 controller )
I guess what you really need is somone who knows how to use your masteraid ? It is basicaly the same as programming an AC400 controller.

there are many applications named as control builder in ABB according to product families. So you must use " Control Builder A". Because;
- Control Builder A - For Advant Family
- Control Builder F - For Freelance Family
- Control Builder M - For AC800M Family
- Control Builder Plus - For AC500 PLC Family
You can use last version of CBA (Control Builder A) for your project with windows 7 or 8. But you must rebuild your project from source code of your PLC Program. You can get this source code from your old engineering station or if PLC supports Online Builder, you can also get this source code directly from PLC.
Although your MasterPiece controller is quite old, Control Builder A should still work quite well with it.
You need to use "on-line buider" ( which is a component of CBA ) along with an engineering board to connect to your controller and extract the source code. On-Line builder will also let you make online changes to your program software.
Basically its a complete replacement for your old DOS based MasterAid (MA220)
You dont need to "reconfigure the project". This applies only to MP50 and MP100 controllers where the source cannot be dumped from the controller. The MP200 controller you have is just an early version of the AC400 controllers.
