pdp800 redundancy test
We have redundant PDP800 modules installed with the mounting base PTU810. We need to test the redundancy with our client but they don't accept to stop one of the modules by pressing 6 sec the stop/reset button, bu they want to directly remove the master unit while online.
Is it safe? Will de redundancy work properly by doing this? I understant that that test is similar as having a faulty unit which doesn't respond at all.
Thanks

Hi. In general it is never safe to just pull a card (controller, gateway etc) from their bases under under circumstances. Nearly all cards have handshaking circuitry which monitors the status of the other card and fails over as needed. This is NOT the same as pulling the card, where these same handshaking signals get the worng signals and cause unpredictable behaviour.
Please have your customer understand this issue.
If you wish to test the fail over feature without the reste button, remove the power to the unit (you may have to setup some extra test circuitry for this), as this will simulate a power fail (again not the same as removing the unit from its base) and this is similar to a unit failure.
Good luck :-)
