The default delivered and free of charge Basic History service is greatly underestimated.
Previously the maximum storage period in Basic History was set to an amazingly low value of 90 days, but that restriction has now been removed.
There is no hardcoded limitation in Basic History, eg you can easily create a Log Template with a Sample Time of 1 second and a Storage Period of 10 years.
Basic History may have not been officially tested with 10 year long running logs, but 5 years does not sound unreachable. To not overshoot the 10.000 logs per connectivity server you can split the log configurations over additional servers using History Source aspects to split the load of logs.
Basic History does not support archiving, but comes with quite a number of perks the other "bigger" does not, eg runtime resizing of storage period (up/down) and runtime change of sample interval (faster/slower), automatic backfilling of secondary logs upon creation and of course the price tag: 0 USD (Basic History is part of the Core System license)
