ACS880 630 kw with Bypass Aplication
Currently we have project that will use ABB ACS880 with bypass application for ABB low voltage motor 630 kw. the VSD will be use as starting device for motor, after the motor reach its full speed (50hz), motor will be supplied directly from network after bypass activated
In the hardware manual for ACS880 they have Bypass Connection example that used interlocked Contactors for switching between VSD Supplied power and Network Supplied power. in the bypass mode, according to connection example the motor still have a protection device using PR222/CI.
in our project, ABB indonesia give us connection that using 2 unit ABB SACE Emax 2 as switching device between VSD Supplied power and Network Supplied power, in bypass mode there is no protection relay installed (Connection diagram attached)
my Question are :
1. Is it standard to replace contactors with ABB SACE Emax 2 as switching device between VSD Supplied power and Network Supplied power, since ABB SACE EMAX 2 is circuit breaker?
2. in the bypass mode, based on the connection that ABB indonesia give to us, the protection for motor only covered by ABB SACE Emax 2, is it standard according to ABB?
please give us an advice since we have doubt with the system that offered by ABB indonesia,
IMHO if ABB Indonesia proposes to use motorized switches instead of contactors, I think the choice has been suitably weighted. The operating principle is the same: close a command synchronized with the phase sequence on the motor.
I believe that ABB Indonesia, before making this choice, has well calculated the functionality of what was proposed.
