ABB recorders connected to Freelance?
Has anyone connected ABB recorders like SM500 with Freelance or other control system?
can you share your usecase and the connection type.
Also if you have used any advanced features like batching at the SM500 side

Tomas,
A couple of the ABB Channel Partners here in the US have been looking at this exact application for both Freelance and Compact 800, using the ScreenMaster Video Recorders in conjunction with the controllers for two purposes:
1. Provide a local data historian for applications such as Packaged Boiler systems where the user may not be using an HMI. In this case they can use a Panel 800 or a ScreenMaster for this requirement.
2. Using the ScreenMaster Video Recorder as a remote I/O box or data concentrator mounted remotely from the controller.
The interface would be done using the MODBUS RTU (Serial) connection with the Freelance controllers (Max speed 19.2K) or via Serial (RS-232) or MODBUS TCP (CI867) with the Compact Controllers. Supposedly, sometime next year when the new AC900F for Freelance comes out, this is supposedly also going to support MODBUS TCP, but I have no official word as to if this is 100% certain and if it is, when this will be available.
At present, we have not done it yet, but have discussed it with the local ABB R&C and Freelance folks and it is definitely possible to do without a whole lot of trouble.
Specifically with the SM500, you would actually be able to record up to 12 values total, which could be 100% MODBUS values from the controller or a mix of inputs wired to the recorder plus MODBUS values from the controller.
The nice thing about this approach is that, as mentioned, you can use the SM Recorder, particularly the SM500, as a low cost remote I/O box that also provides a local data display.
I would suggest speaking with you local ABB Recorder folks and Freelance folks as far as the use of MODBUS and what is available in the SM500 recorder. If you are interested, here is the link on the ABB INFOZONE that will allow you to access the SM500 manual. You want to look in Appendix "B" - Modbus TCP/Modbus 485 starting on page 148 for information on what is available in the recorder.

We have not really looked at doing any batch related work with this solution as for our market, the first target for us will be small packaged/commercial boiler systems for producing steam at locations like univerisites and hospitals where tradationally customers use stand-alone controllers.
ABB is also currently looking at a way to integrate the CM50 controller via MODBUS as a local HMI/Manual Hand station for use with the AC700F so that you could use the AC700F in applications without requiring redundancy but still giving the user the ability to bring the system to a safe state on loss of the AC700 controller (e.g. power supply failure or loss of CPU).
I hope that this helps.
