OPC Tunnelling between 800xA (Client) and 3rd Party OPC Servers
I have an existing 800xA system that will be receiving information from a 3rd Party Source.
The plan is for the 800xA system to be a client and the 3rd Party (is an ABB product called FTSW100) will be the OPC Server.
I will be receiving 18 signals and we will be using ABB Bomem OPC tunnelling tool
Has anyone used this before? I have never done OPC connections with a 3rd Party before so any help will be greatly appreciated
Do I need this license to do this?
3BSE061245R1 : 800xA OPC Client Connection, 800xA 5.1
This enables third party OPC clients to connect to 800xA via the 800xA OPC server. One per external access.

Hi,
As you describe your 800xA System will be the Client system. In this case the license is not needed as you will connect to the OPC Server (3rd Party).
You may use the Generic OPC Connection object (no license), here you would be able to connect to the server and see all the OPC variables in a flat list.
If you wish to have further handling of the OPC Server, object oriented and structured based data then you should purchase a PLCConnect License. It will enable you to model object types and then map the data of the OPC server into these object types.
The license you mention OPC-Client Connection is to be used if you have a 3rd Party Client which wishes to get hold of the 800xA Opc Server information.
