CI840 Firmware Upgradation 4.2/1 to 4.3/2
System installed: xa 5.0 sp2 revD
While upgrading CI840 firmware form 4.2/1 to 4.3/2, I/O modules of that particular cluster went off(no indication on modules).
Procedure followed for upgrade:
Step 1: Upgrade spares CI840 modules available to latest 4.3/2 firmware version.
Step 2: we start our job by removing redundant CI840 Module of a cluster and replace it with our upgraded CI840 module.(after checking healthy status of Primary CI840 module)
Step 3: After when both module come in Dual mode, we make newly installed firmware upgraded module as primary by removing module with old firmware.
Step4: Now we install upgraded CI840 module, which after boot up, acts as secondary.
we faced an issue while performing step 2.
The moment we removed lower (Redundant) CI840 module, power of all modules of that cluster went off. There was no indication on IO Modules but Primary upper CI840 modules (old firmware 4.2/1) was showing healthy status.
Anybody have faced such issue while removing redundant CI840 Module ?
Do you happen to remember if the CI840 module deenergized while you unscrewed the retaining screw? If not, it may have not properly deenergized prior to Hot-Removal and should've be RMA'd at ABB internal testing.
Or, you may have faulty modules falling within this Product Bulletin window: doc ID 3BSE088050:
Or, if you had just switched which CI840 is acting as primary via a hot-removal and then waiting for it to come up in Dual, did you wait until the R light came on for ~2 seconds after Dualing up? I've noticed that a premature hot-removal prior to those 2 seconds can cause a blip in the communication bus.
