I'm quite sure the switch will become temporarily unavailable during the firmware upgrade.
Have you studied the user's guide?
Even if customized settings will be retained after upgrade, a switch may momentarily act as "factory reset" during upgrade. This may lead to undesired effects (eg loop/storm if STP is required but inactive in factory default, lack of VLAN handling, etc).
I strongly recommend disconnecting the controller(s) during firmware upgrade or performing the upgrade with the process shut down.
If I have read the document correct (pages 221-234) you can't update the switch's firmware via a web-browser session. You need to use TFTP (Ethernet) or XMODEM (RS232 serial) methods.
A TFTP server can easily be found on Internet and be installed to Windows, but "tftpd" (TFTP daemon) is almost always available in a UNIX OS. Setting up tftpd may not be a trivial task, but believe in the power of Google and you will succeed! :-)
Windows XP's HyperTerminal can do XMODEM. A serial cable between switch and PC is required here.
I bet there is something to be found on Youtube if you search, maybe not AT but still similar enough for you to take hints from how to get TFTP or XMODEM going.
I've got a bunch of Bay Network 24-port switches very similar to your ATs still going strong at my work.
