Connecting EA PM 803 Freelance to PM 802
Hello, please could you give me an answer to this question:
Is i possible to connect new PM 803 Freelance EA system to existing old Freelance system with PM 802 processor that is running software version 8.2. Connection is through profibus, old system PM 802 would be a master to new EA Freelance system.
If it is possible what steps should I follow. Thanks.

Hi,
Correct me if I am wrong, what I understood from your question description, you want to communicate Freelance controller(PM 803, F2013) to Controller(PM 802, V8.2) ? If yes.
Than profibus is not correct choice, there are two possibilities
(i) If both controllers are in same project : Then use global variable (by enabling export) to variable you want to comunicate or for faster communication\update you can use Ethernet Send/recieve.
(ii) If both controllers are in different project : Then use Modbus rtu or use some rtu/tcp converter and you can have faster communication over modbus TCP. as in V8.2 modbus tcp is not supported. Another option is communicate over OPC but you can show values in digivis from different controller but can not use those variables in logic.
But best option I recommend why not to upgrade old version V8.2 to new latest version and get communicate over modbus TCP, if both controllers are in different project. Also recommended to get connect with your local ABB sales colleagues.
Hope these information helps...
Freelance Controllers provides only Profibus master interfaces. If you really like to connect two Freelance controllers by Profibus you would require a Profibus master/master coupler.
If Profibis is available and a new ethernet line ís to costly, Profibus can be the most practicable solution.
If it is possible to connect both controller by ethernet I would recommend controller lateral communication or Send & Receive.
For lateral communcation both controllers have to be in the same projcet. Send & Receive can be used also between different Freelance systems and versions.
Lateral communcation and Send & Receive aren't developed for fast communcation.
