There are mode details in the "Bianry and Analog Handling" Manual (3BSE035981), Section 4.
PPI is a "Predictive PI Controller". Basically its a Deadtime + PI Controller. Some other literature will refer to it as a Smith Predictor.
PPI is really only usefull where the deadtime is significantly longer than the time constant for a loop - and even then there are tuning methods that will be almost as effective as a deadtime compensator. see ... http://www.automation.com/library/art...
Be careful of Smith Predictors in a process with some variability. They will tend to amplify any oscilation equal to the deadtime of the loop.
