PM891 Setting up of redundant controller
Hi Sir,
I have a doubt which I wantto clarify.
We have a PM891 primary controller which is working fine. Now we want to add one more controller(redundant ) with this.
I want to know the method how to set the IP address (along with the redundant controller) using IpConfig tool. the correct process. Also how to enable redundancy.

Applicable for redundant CPU configurations only.
If the IPConfig tool is connected to a CPU that may be part of a redundant controller (for example a PM861 - alone or already equipped with a backup CPU), you have the possibility to specify the IP addresses (both CN1 and CN2) to be used by the backup CPU in the redundant controller.
Do not connect the IPConfig tool to the backup CPU. Configuration of IP addresses are always done via the primary CPU. No configuration of backup IP addresses is possible from the Control Builder. Backup IP addresses may be configured even if the backup CPU is not connected.
The Set Backup IP addresses menu item is available in the Settings menu if the IPConfig tool is connected to a possible redundant controller configuration. Set the backup IP addresses if redundant CPU configuration is used.
Follow step 1 to 8 in Set Controller IP Addresses to set the controller IP addresses of the primary CPU.
Follow the steps below to set the backup IP addresses (CN1 and CN2):
- Choose Settings>Set Backup IP addresses.
- In the drop-down list, select Ethernet 1 to set the IP address of the CN1 port on the backup CPU.
- Click on one of the radio buttons.
Obtain an IP address by using default rule - default settings are used (0.0.2.0 added to the primary IP address becomes the corresponding backup IP address).
Use the following IP address - to be selected if the network requires otherwise than default settings. Both the IP address and the subnet mask have to be entered.
Disable interface - disconnects the control net communication between the primary and backup CPU. (Normally there is a supervision of the control net communication between the primary and the backup CPU). This setting is not recommended.
Press the Store Interface Settings button to store the configurations in the controller. If network redundancy is used, select Ethernet 2 in the drop-down list to set the IP address of the CN2 port on the backup CPU. Follow step 3 above.
If any of the above described settings fail, a message box is shown with the following message:
Connection to controller lost
For some reason the PC cannot communicate with the controller (cable might be disconnected).Failed to store IP configuration in controller
The controller failed to store the IP configuration in nonvolatile memory.Set auto restart option, see step 10 in Set Controller IP Addresses
Should only be enabled under special circumstances.
Press the system reset button on the front of the controller. The IP configuration is now completed..
Hello,
As part of addition of redundant controller to the existing non-redundant controller, plant needs to be run at the minimal or NO production.
You are not mentioned any CI modules used as assuming NO CI modules and follow the steps:
1.upgrade the new PM891 to the running firmare version as running in the controller by using IP config tool.
2.No need to set any IP address to new controller but ensure it's been factory reset.
3.Shutdown the running controller (keep save the cold retain values before shutdown).
4.Connect both controllers via control and data link cable.
5.Don't power on redundant controller at this stage
6.Ensure default rule/as per requirements implicit applied for the redundant controller via Ip config tool (connect to Primary controller only)
7.Set the 100MBPS full duplex mode always.
8.restart the controler and check in the controller log for IP and mode.
9.Enable Ethernet2 and set the mode and speed
10.power on the redundant controller and wait for dual and check for logs errors and warnings for ethernet,IP with default rule
11.Check for redundancy and down load the controller
