Using both ports on a CI854A
I have a quick question about the CI854AK01 Profibus module which has two Profibus connections on it – are these connections for redundant Profibus networks or can these connections be used as two separate Profibus masters?
The CI854 is only one Master, the Ports are only there for the possibility to support redundancy in cabling. As Titus wrote its technically possible to connect Nodes distributed to both Port A and B and the CI854 could then address all of them but it would be like two busses where the slaves don't see the other side themselves, so it doesn't conform to the Profibus specification.
CI854AK01 Is a Profibus DP-V1 master you can ahieve the following based on the configuration.
Profibus-Master redundancy,Slave redundancy, Line redundancy.
Since your question not telling anything about master redundancy & since you are asking
1.are these connections for redundant Profibus networks?
Yes, these for line redundancy purpose when you configure redundant masters(CI854A),Redundant slaves(CI840A) then you can opt for monitoring of the line redundancy can be enabled through the CI854A settings.

2.can these connections be used as two separate Profibus masters?
Here 2 connections acts as a separate profibus lines/segments(Profibus A & Profibus B) where as Master remains single(CI854A always:1master provides 2 Bus lines) this configuration with non-red. profibus lines can be used with non-red. applications.
