PLC Connect and Generic OPC
What is the main difference between Generic OPC network and PLC Connect
Which application we should use PLC Connect and Generic OPC
We have used PLC Connect is many sites and we always had problems with communication and redundancy ( from 5.0 to 5.1 versions ).
Any advantage interms of Cost of License , any Limitation on number of connection or tags

Hello,
PLC Connect: Is the Connectivity option to 800xA Base that makes it possible to connect & integrate 3rd party PLC, Controllers using built in drivers like modbus RTU,TCP,Sattbus TCP & dial option enables the comm. with remote PLC's & It supports integrate, connect & access data from the 3rd party OPC servers confirming to OPC DA 2.05A/1.0
You can connect upto 25000 signal objects pe separate PLC connect server & supports redundancy(Master & Slave)
Since beacuse of many features with PLC connect its better to go with PLC connect.
Licensing:Its a licensed one
Generic OPC(OPC Connect): Is Used when you want to connect, integrate & access data/AE from the 3rd party OPC server confirming to OPC DA with 2.05a & 1.0
It supports parallel redundancy.
Licensing:Its Free of cost
Please refer page no 434 for how to use.

Hi,
Generic OPC connection only allows OPC connectivity, but PLC connect allows various conenction like OPC,Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP etc.
PLC Connect it’s intended for connection to 3:d party PLC’s and controllers, but it is also applicable for ABB controllers where no dedicated connect package exist. PLC Connect thus makes it possible to configure the System 800xA as a hybrid DCS/PLC system.
Please see below link for limitation of number of connection or tags:

For PLC Connect you have to purhase particular license according to your PLC Connectivity(Modbus Serial, Modbus TCP, OPC etc.)
Hope this helps.
