What does the letters Im on a 125Amp MCCB Mean?
I have a student on a Level 4 qualification asking a question about the letters 'Im' on the front of a 125Amps MMCB.
I have been told that the 'Im' is a value less than the MCCB rating should the breaker be used to protect motors. Can you confirm what the abreviation 'Im' means.
Thanks
Gavin

Dear Gohagan,
Although I'm not an expert on Circuit Breakers, it seems that "Im" is "Short-circuit relay trip-current". Please find more info on attached source (wiki site).
Hope it helps,
Mike
Greetings
the MCCB is normally disconnect (Trip) at two events
the over current , and the short circuit
some of the MCCB's are adjusted Short circuit current , some are fixed
the same with the over current over load
hope that answer your question
Good luck
Adding to previous
the Im is referring the magnetization current , it is reflecting to the current accrued in the event of the short circuit not to the over current
as i do mentioned it may be fixed or adjusted based on the category of the breaker
