Redundant AS/CS server Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit
Is it possible to have in one system main AS/CS 32-bit Windows 7 server together with standby AS/CS Windows 7 64-bit version? For testing purposes we have Win7 32-bit AS/CS server and need to add one more server to check redundancy. We prefer this new server to be Win7 64-bit. Of course, xA installation on existing server is 32-bit and on new one will be 64-bit. Version 5.1 FP3.
Anybody has such combination?
It is strongly recommened that 32 bit and 64 bit system should not be clubbed.
In one 800xA system, either all nodes should be 32 bit or 64 bit.
For your reference 3BSE034679-511_D_en_System_800xA_5.1_Feature_Pack_Automated_Installation Page 22
All 800xA System nodes should use either the 64- or 32-bit operating system. Do not mix 64- and 32-bit operating system in the same system.
In theory it could be done, but is not recommended, given the same 800xA sw versions on both x32 and x64.
The biggest issue is that in the MS land some of the supporting software may have a different rev in either version and therefore cause you some grief in the real world.
I would strongly urge you to test this in a lab first and NOT try this on a running system.
Mixing of 32 and 64 bit operating system version is supported from System 800xA versions;
- 5.1 RevB (and onwards)
- 5.1 FP2 (and onwards).
Reason: on these & later versions there is only one single media and software build.
In theory mixing should work as early as 5.1 RevA and 5.1 FP1 but since they had separate media for 32 bit and 64 bit the support was not granted there.
