In Graphic Display PG2, what is the concept of Late Binding? What is the exact application of it and how can it be used?
Late binding is a feature that allows application engineers to configure the displays even when the actual references do not exist during time they are building the displays.
Eg: You need you build an over view display (like startup display in a workplace) with links to sub displays but you are are only sure where the displays will be build but exact displays does not exist yet, you can use late binding so that as and when sub displays are added, your main display automatically updates with correct links.
Same concept can also be used while building faceplate elements.
But please be aware that, the time taken to open a display that use late binding functionality will be slightly more than normal display.
if you want an example you can load "New Graphics Demo", which is done by executing the BAT file "LoadNewGraphicsDemo located inProgram Files\ABB Industrial IT\Process Portal A\demo\
The displays are located in Functional Structure Root: New Graphics Demo.
As you are interested in Late Binding, you go to Late Binding object.
I've used it for display navigation. In one project all displays had a unique number in the name and the operators where used to this number from the old HMI system.
Now they can put in the number or a part of it and I show all display links that match. The operator can select from this list by a simple click.
