AF100 bus length with twisted pair and optical fiber (why only 750 mtr?)
Hi all
I wonder how come there is such a short max length distance on a AF100 setup. I can understand when using the coaxial cabling with the electrical attenuation but when converted to either twisted pair and or optical bus, the system shouldnt have any electrical attenuation?
Also is it possible to transmit AF100 communication through a switch (unmanaged/managed)?

Hi,
Below picture you can find max. length for cble types.
Also, if you want to use twisted pair cable, there are two types of attenuation:
1-)Externel Source (earthing, harmonics etc.)
2-) Internel Source (cable resistance, input impedance, number of station per segment)
For optical bus, you dont have any electrical attenuation, instead of this there is a fading of optical power. It is known as decibels per unit length.
