Wireless Communication Between PLC
Is it possible to communicate two PLC or Multiple PLC's using any Wireless Protocol (GSM, Radio etc...) even transfer data between them.
For Example: i have PM573-ETH at a location and another PLC PM554-ETH somewere around 50km away and another PLC 25km away, Now i need to Send/Receive data of their tags to one another
Yes it is possible for wireless communication between two PLCs. In one project where I worked, we used radio frequency ethernet modems to establish communication between two AC500 PLCs using Modbus protocol.
We had a line of sight distance of 2 km.Based on this information, the power of the Tranceiver was selected.
RF modems work best if the transceivers do not have any thick obstacles like mountains or buildings in the direct line of sight. For a 25km distance of transmission, the power of the antennae must be quite large.
In another project, we had established communication between an AC500 PLC and a SCADA PC via 3G internet, using a GSM SIM modem. However, this solution required the use of a static IP at SCADA PC side.
